Speakers:

Ricardo Alexandre Leite, Head of Special Projects and Technical Office in ei - energia independente (Galp company)
Topic: The reality and the future of the decentralized energy production

  • The decentralized energy production Principles
  • The Portuguese market (status and goals).
  • The decentralized production contribution to decarbonization
  • Decentralized PV for Business and homes
  • Economics - Is it a good deal?
  • Energy communities and collective self consumption
  • What is next? (Storage and virtual power plants)

Ricardo Leite has more than 10 years of experience in renewables and in energy efficiency and more than 20 on the energy sector. Is now the Head of Special Projects and Technical Office in ei - energia independente, a Galp company group. Is the responsible to develop decentralized energy production projects, for self-consumption, in Corporate Clients and to size and design the technical solutions for B2B Clients. Likes to face the market challenges. He manages to create and develop several new business and companies within Galp and is always aware of new solutions that can bring advantages to Customers.

Rui Pestana, M.Sc., Advisor System Operator at REN - Rede Eléctrica Nacional, S.A., Portugal.
Topic: Solar Photovoltaic at larger scale for VHV transmission networks: requirements, challenges and opportunities.

  • Since RES generation, like PV, will take the role on convectional fossil power plants, the grid system security needs must be ensured by the new RES technologies.
  • One of the technical challenges for PV is to ensure voltage control during the night, without solar radiation, besides the variability of the solar production that are penalised by the market design. This variability can be mitigated by electrical storage that can be a good opportunity for the producer and the system operator.
Rui Pestana has a Master degree and is Engineer of Electrical Engineering and Computers from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal. He received the title of Expert in Energy by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. He is advisor of the System Operator division with REN - Rede Eléctrica Nacional S.A. (Portuguese TSO). Project leader on the research centre R&D NESTER. He is also invited Professor at ISEL - Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. He has been working in several WG of CIGRE, ENTSO-E and European project funded by FP6, FP7 and H2020. He received the "CIGRE Technical Committee Award".
