The Purpose of IAEE Affiliates

Affiliates help extend IAEE’s reach by providing a local community of peers within a country or region, recruiting and engaging members in their country or region. They connect international and the local communities of energy economists — translating global themes to regional relevance. Affiliates may coordinate with each other or with IAEE for joint events, cross-affiliate initiatives, or shared research efforts.

Find an Affiliate Event Near You

Affiliates often organize local or regional symposia, workshops, conferences, and speaker series, creating opportunities for members to connect closer to home.

Start a New Affiliate

The requirements for starting an Affiliate are straightforward — a viable group of at least 20 individuals all of whom must join IAEE and have organized to the point of adopting a set of bylaws (download sample set of bylaws) as well as have elected a group of officers.

Key Requirements

  • At least 20 members from the Affiliate must be members of IAEE
  • The Affiliate must hold elections. Though the sample bylaws imply annual elections, elections every two years (but no less often than this) are acceptable
  • An individual may hold the office of president for no more than two consecutive years
  • The Affiliate must hold at least three meetings a year
  • The responsibilities to IAEE Headquarters
  • The affiliate should have an active student strategy, for instance through the nomination of a student representative on its council

Affiliate Dues

Affiliate dues vary based on World Bank national income categories. For more information, please review our membership pricing. Affiliate dues are payable to the IAEE in the first quarter of each year.

Affiliate membership must be open to all individuals whose work or interest is in the field of energy economics.

If you have any further questions regarding the establishment of an IAEE Affiliate please do not hesitate to contact the IAEE Executive Director at support@iaee.org and Roula Inglesi-Lotz, IAEE Vice President for Membership and Affiliate Relations at roula.inglesi-lotz@up.ac.za.
