Connecting Emerging Scholars to Global Energy Dialogues
The IAEE International Student Conference will take place online in April, under the theme:
Cross-Continental Perspectives on Energy Development in an Era of Uncertainty: Securing Sustainable and Affordable Energy Futures
This virtual international conference provides a platform for master’s students, doctoral candidates, a nd early-career researchers to present their work, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback from senior academics and members of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), ensuring broad accessibility and truly international participation.
The conference explores innovation, resilience, and equity in contemporary energy systems, with particular attention to cross-regional perspectives and current global uncertainty.
Outstanding research contributions will be selected for further presentation at IAEE international and regional conferences.

Registration:
Conference is open to IAEE members only.
Submission Guidelines:
- Presenters need to document to the organisers their student status - A copy of an active student card is required.
- Abstracts must be submitted in English (maximum 300 words) and should clearly outline the research question, motivation, methodology, preliminary or final findings, and expected academic or policy implications.
- Work-in-progress, exploratory studies, and early-stage doctoral or master’s research are strongly encouraged, provided the abstract demonstrates clear motivation, rigour, and relevance to the conference theme.
- Submissions must be made via the official conference submission link, which is placed at the top of the page. All abstracts will undergo peer review by the Scientific Committee, with an emphasis on constructive feedback and scholarly development.
From Ideas to Academic Paper: Workshop session
If authors wish their abstract to be considered for the workshop review session, they must select this option during submission. Two to three abstracts will be selected to receive detailed feedback and suggestions from the reviewer.
IAEE Emerging Student Research Award
In addition to financial perks, participating in the IAEE Emerging Student Research Award competition gives students a chance to receive feedback on their work from a committee of preeminent energy economists. To be considered for the IAEE Emerging Student Research Award please follow the guidelines below. Student shall notify the scientific committee when submitting the abstract running in the competition for presentation in the program. This can be done within the abstract submission system. Please submit all supporting materials electronically in pdf format to support@iaee.org with "Submission for IAEE Emerging Student Research Award" in the subject line. You will be notified by April 10, 2026, as to the disposition of your submission.
The submission must:
- Be original work completed by the student;
- The concept development, the research described, and the writing must be primarily the work of the student and cannot have previously won a prize at an IAEE affiliated conference.
- Work co-authored with up to 2 supervisors will be considered, but with additional application requirements/materials, also set out below:
- The lead author must be a student;
- A contribution statement should be provided by the student(s) outlining their role in the paper;
- A contribution statement or letter is required from the supervisor(s) confirming that their role on the paper was primarily advisory; and
- All authors must be IAEE members.

To be eligible for consideration, the applicants must be:
- a full-time student as of the application deadline (copy of student ID should be sent to: support@iaee.org)
- a member of IAEE in good standing

A top prize of US$500 will be given to the winner. The winner and the additional two top runners will receive a registration fee waiver and the opportunity to present at one of the IAEE’s corner stone conferences, during the next 18 months following the award. All travel and accommodation costs associated with attending the conference are the responsibility of the award recipients. Winners of the competition will be invited to submit extended and revised versions of their work for consideration to be published in the Energy Forum.

The conference program has a limited number of presentation slots. To ensure broad international participation and provide opportunities for a diverse range of contributors, each registered participant may present only one paper in the conference program.
